For Pits' Sake, Inc. and the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), are working together to help raise awareness about the cruel and inhumane activity of dog fighting.
The high-profile investigation and conviction of pro football player Michael Vick shone a spotlight on this criminal industry, revealing unimaginable acts of cruelty toward dogs and confirming that the oft-maligned pitbull is the victim, not a willing participant in this sadistic arena.
But pit bulls aren't the only victims. When dog fighting is condoned and even glorified by adults and role models, children become desensitized to violence and the suffering of others. In fact, research shows that there is a marked correlation between cruelty to animals and violent crimes against people.
Our MMA athletes are role models to children and young adults aound the world and are demonstrating that they are champions in and out of the cage through there participation in this anti-dog fighting campaign.
Abuse to the young, the elderly or to an animal should not be tolerated. Real men, real fighters stand up for what is right to protect those less able to do so.
In addition to our Public Service Announcements (PSAs), our award-winning hero pit bulls and MMA champions visit schools, children's groups, and juvenile detention centers, with the message that dog fighting is not a symbol of power, strength, or greatness. We hope that our community outreach program will shed more light on the prevalence of dog fighting and its overall effect on the community. We are determined to Knock Out the social acceptance of this barbaric activity.
