"Knock Out Dog Fighting" Program Honored With Achievement Award
August 4, 2008 - Celebrity Mixed Martial Arts fighters Cung Le, Josh "the Punk" Thomson and the American Kickboxing Academy receive achievement award for their work with Kristine Crawford and For Pits' Sake, Inc. to combat dog fighting.

The unique structure and impact of For Pits' Sake, Inc.'s "Knock Out Dog Fighting" program is being honored with an Achievement Award by the Animal Farm Foundation.

The Animal Farm Foundation Achievement Award is presented to individuals and pit bull dogs whose service to the community honors the human/canine bond and restores the image of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

"We at Animal Farm Foundation wish to thank For Pits' Sake and the American Kickboxing Academy for their great work in exposing the callous cruelty of dog fighting," said Jane Berkey, President of Animal Farm Foundation. Knock Out Dog Fighting Champ Wins World Championship Title
June 27, 2008 - What was deemed to be a sure bet for one of the most exciting Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights of the year lived up to the hypes as Josh "The Punk" Thomson beat Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez to win the Strikeforce World Lightweight Championship title Friday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. Thomson won the nationally televised "Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Thomson" event with a unanimous five-round decision by what the announcers were saying was an almost flawless fight by "The Punk". Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Are "Knocking Out Dog Fighting"
June 9, 2008 - Josh “The Punk” Thomson, Mixed Martial Arts Lightweight Champion, has just completed the latest PSA for For Pits' Sake, Inc. and their anti-dog fighting program “Knock Out Dog Fighting”. He will be fighting for the Strikeforce Lightweight title on June 27, 2008 at 8:00pm at the HP Pavilion in San Jose , CA .

This is the second PSA completed by world class Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters who are demonstrating that they are champions in and out of the ring by joining For Pits' Sake to knock out dog fighting. Champion Josh Thomson wanted to provide a positive role model for children exposed to this type of violence and appears in the PSA with his English bulldog Brady. He gives a strong message: “Dog fighting is animal abuse, plain and simple. Torturing animals is not cool; nor is it a sign of being a real man. Le Stops Shamrock In Epic Battle
March 29, 2008 - In an early candidate for fight of the year, San Shou kickboxer and still undefeated Cung Le (6-0) became Strikeforce's new world middleweight champion by stopping -- and breaking the arm of -- former title-holder Frank Shamrock (24-9-1).

The fight, the biggest in the history of the suddenly surging Strikeforce organization, capped off Saturday's co-promoted event with EliteXC. A San Jose, Calif. crowd packed the HP Pavilion. The main card aired live on Showtime.

Calderon Bill Would Toughen CA Dog Fighting Law
February 27, 2008 - State Sen. Ron Calderon on Wednesday laid out legislation he says will take a bite out of illegal dogfighting.

Calderon, D-Montebello, said his bill - once introduced - will provide for the forfeiture of property and proceeds acquired through dogfighting of those convicted of the crime. "I'm going to maul these criminals until they stop by going after their money, their houses and their cars - any property they use in the commission of this crime," he said. "It's a shadowy underground crime increasingly associated with gangs and drugs that desensitizes our youths, breeds even more violence and corrupts even those we look up to and admire," he said. Nava Announces New CA Dog Fighting Legislation
February 21, 2008 - Assemblymember Pedro Nava has introduced legislation to elevate spectatorship at a dogfight from a misdemeanor to a felony. California is the only Western state in which dogfight spectators are prosecuted as misdemeanants.  “California must join the other 19 states which have made it a felony to be a spectator at a dogfight,” said Nava. “If you are thinking about going to a dogfight, say goodbye to your family, your job and your future. I want you in prison. I look forward to advancing AB 2281 to the Governor's desk to address this brutal crime.” (click here to read more)

 

Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act Signed Into Law
May 2, 2007 - The federal law takes effect immediately and provides felony penalties for interstate commerce, import and export related to animal fighting activities. It is inteded to make it much harder for criminals who engage in dogfighting and cockfighting to continue their operations. Each violation of the federal law may bring up to three years in jail and up to a $250,000 fine for perpetrators.
