September 1, 2008
Kris Crawford of For Pits' Sake, Inc receives Achievement Award and plaudits for Knock Out Dog Fighting campaig against dog fighting. She has recruited Strikeforce champions Josh "the Punk" Thomson and Cung Le to help get her message across. says Kris Crawford, Kristine Crawford of For Pits Sake
The program was conceived by For Pits' Sake, a non-profit organisation that provides American Pit Bulls as search and rescue dogs and therapy pets for disabled children and adults. It is part of an educational campaign designed by founder Kris Crawford which visits schools, children's groups and juvenile detention centres with the aim of highlighting the “cruel and sadistic” nature of organized dog-fighting.
Jane Berkey, president of Animal Farm Foundation, describes Ms. Crawford as “a hero in the fight against animal cruelty”.
"I take my responsibility as a role model very seriously," says Middleweight Champ Cung Le. "I love animals and I'll do anything I can to help. Those of us that are strong need to protect those that are weaker." says Kris Crawford of For Pits sake with her hero pit bulls
Lightweight Champ Thomson says he is “honoured” to be involved with the program. In a video shot for the charity, he appears with his own dog, Brady. "Dog fighting is animal abuse, plain and simple. Torturing or abusing animals is not cool, nor is it a sign of being a real man,” he says. “Real fighters stand up for what's right and protect those who are unable to do so."
According to the Humane Society of the United States, there are 40,000 professional dog fighters in the United States and up to 100,000 amateurs involved in dog fighting. remembers Kris Crawford and Kristine Crawford of For Pits Sake
Last year, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick received a 23-month prison sentence in Kansas for his part in organising a dog fighting ring.
